  • Check the oil level sensor. The engine must have between 600ml and 650ml of oil. Any more or less will cut the ignition of the engine and prevent start-up.
  • Check the hopper sensor. Ensure that the bolt underneath the hopper is securely screwed into the micro switch. If it’s not the case, the ignition will be cut and will not start.
  • If you have completed these two steps and the machine still does not start, temporarily deactivate the wires that connect these sensors. Follow the image below for directions.
  • wood chipper petrol engine wires

Q: What are the two main reasons why the chipper will not start?
A: The two main reasons are the oil level sensor and the hopper sensor. Ensure that the engine has the correct oil level and that the bolt underneath the hopper is securely screwed into the micro switch.

Q: What can cause the ignition to be cut and prevent start-up?
A: The ignition can be cut due to an incorrect oil level, or an insecure bolt underneath the hopper which is not properly screwed into the microswitch.

Q: How can I find out if the hopper switch or the oil alert is at fault?
A: Temporarily deactivate the wires that connect these sensors. The wires circled in red tell us if the hopper switch is at fault and the wire circled in green tells us if the oil alert is at fault. Disconnect these wires and start the machine. Reconnect the wires, one by one, to find the issue.

Q: What should I do if the troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue?
A: If the machine still does not start, please don’t hesitate to get back in touch with the manufacturer’s customer service to escalate the issue.

Installing electric start battery on FM6DD / FM6DD-MUL https://forest-master.com/faqs/installing-electric-start-battery-on-fm6dd-fm6dd-mul/ https://forest-master.com/faqs/installing-electric-start-battery-on-fm6dd-fm6dd-mul/#respond Tue, 31 Aug 2021 13:52:24 +0000 https://forest-master.com/?post_type=docs&p=18105 Before beginning – check that you have the required assembly parts as listed below :

    Battery Tray – 1
    M5x125 Bolt – 2
    M5 Nut – 2
    Battery – 1
    Ignition Key – 2

Attach the battery tray to the underside of the base (42) using the 4 bolts that secure the engine to the base.

    image 1

Connect the battery wires to the terminals on the battery red to positive (+). Place the battery on the tray and secure using two M5 x 125 bolts and nuts.

Starting the FM6DD or FM6DD-MUL with the Electric Start

    1. Ensure that the fuel shut-off valve is in the ‘ON‘ position.
    2. Move the choke control lever to the ‘CHOKE‘ position (this should only be required if the engine is cold or not starting).
    3. Move the throttle control lever to the ‘FAST‘ position. Then turn the ignition key to the ‘START‘ position. As soon as the engine starts, allow the key to turn back to the ‘RUN‘ position.
    4. Move the choke control lever (if used for cold engine) slowly back to the ‘RUN‘ position when the engine is running well.
    5. If the wood chipper has not been running (cold engine), warm up the engine by running the engine at half throttle for 3-4 minutes, then advance the engine throttle control to the maximum speed.

    Stopping the chipper

    1. Move the throttle lever to ‘IDLE‘.
    2. Turn the Ignition key to the ‘OFF‘ position.

Is E10 Petrol suitable for the engine? https://forest-master.com/faqs/is-e10-petrol-suitable-for-the-engine/ https://forest-master.com/faqs/is-e10-petrol-suitable-for-the-engine/#respond Mon, 23 Aug 2021 12:13:10 +0000 https://forest-master.com/?post_type=docs&p=17895 All Forest Master series of petrol wood chippers, garden shredders and mulchers are entirely compatible with the use of E10 petrol. If you own a different brand of ga machinery, we strongly recommend that you read the product engine manual and consult with the brand directly as many garden machines are not compatible with the change to E10 petrol.

You can read more about the change to E10 fuel on our blog.

Why is the engine sputtering / cutting out? https://forest-master.com/faqs/petrol-engine-is-spluttering-cutting-out/ https://forest-master.com/faqs/petrol-engine-is-spluttering-cutting-out/#respond Fri, 13 Aug 2021 14:11:48 +0000 https://forest-master.com/?post_type=docs&p=17675 Q: Why is my petrol engine sputtering/cutting out?
A: 90% of the time, this issue is caused by a slight lack of oil within the chipper or mulcher. Simply adding 50ml of oil to the engine should solve the issue.

Q: What should I do if adding oil doesn’t solve the issue?
A: If adding oil doesn’t solve the issue, it may be due to water entering the petrol tank when filling it up. Make sure the funnel is completely dry before filling up the chipper with petrol. If water has entered the tank, it sinks to the bottom and the engine will attempt to burn it first, causing the engine to sputter and cut out. To resolve this issue, empty some of the petrol using the plug at the bottom of the machine.

Q: What else could cause the engine to sputter/cut out?
A: A rare case of the engine sputtering and cutting out may be due to other issues such as a faulty spark plug or carburetor. If you have checked the oil level and ensured that no water has entered the tank, please contact our technical helpline for further assistance.
