I tried that. The rolling motion consolidates the shredded paper into spherical blobs that “never” decompose. I woulkd dump out the load months later, rotating it every few days and keeping it moist, and these dirty balls–when broken apart–revealed essentially unchanged shredded paper. I think the only way to prevent that would be to only add the shreds very slowly to the mix, but I gave up and stuck with kitchen scraps and lawn trimmings.
